NEWS

Lost Posse Endurance Ride - New Year's Eve 2011

Members of NFPFHA competed in the Lost Posse Endurance Ride over the New Year's Eve weekend.  First-timers included Carol Groves, Mari Sanchez, and Robin Garland, with mentors Sally Bek and Megan Altavilla, riding the 15-mile ride.  Leatha Flowers rode the 25-mile route, mentored by Lindsay Campbell.
100% of the Pasos vet-checked in "A" condition at the beginning of the ride, and in "A" or "A-" at the end of the ride!  Which means the horses had a pretty good time, too!

NEW Recreational Rider Programs!

Get your updated Recreational Riders Program booklet on our Recreation page.  Updated in June 2011, there are lots of new things to do to receive recognition!  You're spending the time with your horse--these are easy to participate in and a GREAT way to show the world why we love our Pasos so much!

Updated NFPFHA Bylaws

The updated NFPFHA bylaws are now available on our home page.

MONTHLY RIDES

NFPFHA hosts a monthly trail ride, GENERALLY on the second Sunday, but not always!  In 2012 we have scheduled 3 rides on Saturdays!  The location and time varies each month.

EVERYONE is invited, regardless of breed of horse or riding style.  The event time is "RTR", which means Ready-to-Ride -- saddled up and ready to go! Check
Events for specific MONTHLY RIDE information. We are always seeking new places to ride, please contact us to add to the variety.

PASO FINOS - AMBASSADORS

North Florida Paso Fino Association Demonstrates Pasos at Olympic Qualifying Event – Red Hills Horse Trials, March 2011

For the third year in a row, tNFPFHA was invited to perform a Paso Fino demonstration at the prestigious March 2011 Red Hills Horse Trials (RHHT) in Tallahassee, Florida. One of the top-rated three day events, RHHT kicks off the “qualifying season” for national and international Olympic contenders. NFPFHA is the only breed group invited to RHHT.

NFPFHA members practiced drill team exercises on several weekends and were ready to perform on the day of the show. A mixture of novice and experienced riders, NFPFHA members executed several drills to the large audience with Megan Altavilla announcing. To demonstrate the versatility of the Paso and its accommodation to multiple riding styles, horses were shown in traditional Paso tack, dressage saddles, Western tack, and all purpose English tack, with each rider dressed accordingly.

Leatha Flowers on Carbanero Sin Par showed how Pasos canter and perform flying lead changes and spins. (Leatha is the president of NFPFHA). Sally Bek on Revelacion showed how fast a Paso can really largo, and can neck rein. She was joined by Robin Garland on Maestro for the Paso’s true proof of smoothness with the champagne glass ride (we admit we filled the glasses with “Southern Comfort” – that’s sweet tea for all you uninitiated)!

Kimberly Wallace on Breeze, our youth rider, proved how family-friendly our horses are by her unusual "dismount" - sliding off her horse’s hind end, without Breeze moving at all. Maria Morales and Chico showed what a performance horse can do. Our final participant proved the tractability and kindness of the Paso – Bell Bek on Casino showed the wonderful mount that is a true “husband” horse.

All the horses and riders were introduced for a “meet and greet” that allowed the audience to pet the Pasos and feed them carrots. The event was very successful and the spectators commented they were impressed with the smooth ride, beauty, versatility, and friendliness of the horses, and their overall suitability for all family members.

NFPFHA delights in opportunities such as RHHT to take our Paso Fino ambassadors into the community; for example, we have also appeared at the Blessing of the Animals and the Military Muster at Mission San Luis, Tallahassee. NFPFHA actively encourages our members to participate in activities that include trail rides, spring and fall campouts, benefit rides, and our fun show (May 2011) and PFHA show (July 2011).
